Democracy Update: Saturday 1st April 2006
Here's a few links to Democracy news around the world at 17:33 GMT
- The Georgian opposition has announced plans to boycott Parliament. Why I hear you ask? Because one of their members has been stripped of his parliamentary seat - sounds a bit Ethiopian to me.
- A demonstration against a ruling by the Central Election Commission in Kyrgyzstan has ended peacefully. A candidate hoping to stand in a forth-coming by-election has been barred from the race. Some good news though, President Bakiyev went on to the street and actually spoke to the demonstrators. In my opinion Bakiyev has been too distant from his people since coming to power.
- And Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has attempted to lay down the law for his Orange rival Tymoshenko. The Head of State, whose party will play kingmakers in Parliament, has said she can only lead a government on his terms.
That's all for tonight guys, enjoy your evening!
