Democracy Update: Tuesday 28th March 2006
Here's a few quick links to Democracy news across the globe at 14:20 GMT
- Israeli's are going to the polls today in the first post-Sharon election. Whilst the towering figure still dominates the Kadima party's programme, a new era is beginning. The main issue in this vote will be Israel's withdrawl from Palestinian land - some are arguing should it happen at all?
- Islam Karimov is starting a working holiday in South Korea today. As Nathan at Registan points out, the Korean press are largely hailing the Uzbek President's rule, whilst overlooking his massive human rights violations and economic stagnation.
- As the horse trading continues in Ukraine, Robert has a look at the new political climate. As he points out the gains of the Revolution (Freedom of Speech and Assembly) will be difficult for any leader to roll back.
- And 16 years after Independence, W. Bezuidenhoudt asks is the fledgling Democracy of Namibia any better off?
That's all for today guys, enjoy your Tuesday!
