Democracy Round-Up
A quick look at events from around the globe on Thursday 23 March 2006:
- Morgan Tsvangirai has finally got some real guts, perhaps over this? The MDC leader claims plans for civil disobedience are well under way. Is Mugabe on his way out? I doubt it.
- Michelle Malkin takes aim at Afghanistan and quite rightly so. Incase you haven't heard, the Afghan courts are conducting a trial against a Christian convert. Such a ridiculous trial should never have been conducted in the post-Taleban era. Yet with staunch conservatives in control of the judiciary this man faces the death penalty. The Afghan government say they aren't getting involved and the courts are independent. Just how much so will be proven with this trial. Here's hoping this man is released.
- Finally, some good news. One of the few African Democractic success stories, Benin, elected a new President in a ballot deemed both free and fair. The tragedy of African Democracy is perhaps that those that have it, Ghana, Benin, Botswana are too small to have any major clout. Now if Nigeria could learn some lessons we'd be getting somewhere.
Thats all for now folks, enjoy your evening!
